Education and Career Opportunities in Glendive

Dawson Community College

Education close to home is one of the opportunities that makes Glendive a welcoming place to live. Dawson Community College offers paths for students beginning college, adults developing new skills and learners preparing to transfer to a university. For families at Pinnacle Estates and Extended Stay RV LLC, DCC is a local resource for education and career development.

Programs for Different Goals

  • University transfer preparation. Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees generally cover the first two years of bachelor’s-level study. Concentrations include business, education, biology, engineering, psychology, agriculture and allied health and nursing preparation.
  • Career and technical training. Programs include business management, criminal justice, early childhood education, livestock production management, welding technology and technical skills. Available credentials vary by program.
  • Certificates and associate degrees. Career programs may lead to a one-semester Certificate of Technical Studies, a one-year Certificate of Applied Science or a two-year Associate of Applied Science. Completion time depends on the program and course load.
  • Flexible learning. DCC offers online courses and selected online degree options. Eligible Montana high school students can also explore dual enrollment to begin earning college credit.

How Far Can a Student Go?

Students can complete an associate degree at Dawson and continue toward a bachelor’s degree at a receiving university. DCC lists program-specific transfer partnerships such as agricultural business with Montana State University in Bozeman, elementary education with Dickinson State University, and business, education and other fields with MSU Billings.

Plan early with a DCC advisor and the receiving school. Admission, grades, prerequisites and degree requirements determine how credits apply. Nursing and allied health concentrations prepare students for further study; they do not themselves confer a nursing license. Further graduate or professional study takes place at institutions offering those degrees.

Faculty, Staff and Student Support

DCC’s faculty teach academic subjects and practical career skills, supported by staff in enrollment, financial aid, student engagement and online learning. Its published directory lists Chad Knudson as President, Erica Milne as Director of Enrollment and Chris Payne as Director of Financial Aid.

Academic advisors help students choose courses and plan their next steps. Free peer tutoring supports enrolled DCC students with course concepts and study skills. Campus life also includes student organizations, athletics and arts activities.
